No one has a perfect life. Sometimes, sooner or later, “life” comes knocking on our door, and we have to answer the call and go through our distinctive challenges. 

And one needs to pause for a moment and consider, if everyone wants to live a great life, a happy life, and everyone can take certain action to achieve such a goal, why is it that most people don’t do exactly that? What holds us back? And what is it that will enable us to do that?  

In the face of this, how do we manage a great life? How do we live a life of fulfillment and happiness? 

People aiming at nothing in life end up hitting nothing dead on the head.

Here are 7 principles*.

• If you’re working on a job that is not going anywhere, you are not happy, and, maybe, you are not even making much money either, just enough to barely pass the month, you need to take a moment to reevaluate your life and reconsider your choices. There’s got to be more in life than that; than this boring, unfulfilling, meaningless version of it. You need to choose a different kind of future; and you need to work on it, to create it and build it. 
• You need to find your reason for being, the purpose for your life. You need to create a vision for your life; one that will inspire you and motivate you, it will get you out of you comfort zone and “push” you to take the actions necessary to be successful. When you don’t have a grip of purpose on your life, you have insecurity. Most people don’t know what their purpose is, but only subconsciously. Like birds find the north, we have an innate ability to find our purpose, our own “north”. But, we stop listening to ourselves as life goes on, and we never discover our true greatness, and capacity for creating miracles. So, find the things that will give you a sense of meaning, purpose and direction, a sense of fulfillment. Now you must go after them.
• Eyesight and mindsight: you have to release your past, your history, and use your imagination to see into the future. Give yourself a chance. As you begin to look toward the future, every time you find yourself saying that you can’t do something, putting yourself down, being negative about you and the possibilities for you, you got to literally catch yourself, and you got to affirm to yourself in the process, “I can make it. Someway, this can happen for me.” You got to remind yourself that you got powers within you, talents within you, that you haven’t even reached for yet. You’ve got to go out of your comfort zone. Once you give an opportunity to yourself, to try and to experiment, you will find that you can achieve things you couldn’t even imagine. It is practically impossible to eradicate negative thoughts; in fact, 87% of our thoughts are negative. In order to create what you want you need to change your inner conversation, and you will change the results. 
• When you are facing a difficult situation, or things in life have not turned out in the way that you’d like, you got to be willing to take action and do something about it, instead of just complaining. Life is like a grindstone, it can polish you or it can pulverize you, depending on how you position yourself. Just say “It’s possible!” That puts you in the playing field. You must look like you’re ready to give a fight for that dream, to hustle and grind. You can’t expect for everything to be perfect to go after your dream. say it’s possible and don’t let anybody turn you around, circumstances, hard times, whatever is happening, you know that this too shall pass, you have the ability and the capacity and a sense of entitlement. “I deserve to have good things happen to me”, and “it’s possible”. Once you have your dream, you inspire others to do it too. Once you’re defeated in you mind, though, it’s all over. You showed up with greatness in you, and most of us, because of the mindset we’ve been born into, and most of us, because we allow ourselves to be controlled by life, instead of being in charge of our lives, as opposed to taking charge of our lives, we are on automatic, just following the crowd. And, no matter what you do, you are going to have people criticize you. Joseph Campbell talks about the long night of the soul, you’re gonna have moments of feeling deceived and isolated, persecuted and condemned, even powerless. Long journey, long dark night of the soul, but you have to be ready, you have to endure, hold on to your dream. Don’t let anybody kill it in you, hold on to that dream, when it doesn’t make sense to anybody, including you sometimes, just hold on. Eventually help comes, in the middle of the night, help will come. And, when life knocks you down, sometimes you have to take two steps backwards to go forward. Find strength from somewhere deep down, It’s possible. When you’re facing defeat and disappointment, when everyone says you can’t do it, you don’t have what it takes, say, in spite of these odds, it’s possible, and I can do it. I can have my dream, I can have this new life, this new vision of myself. Remember, Adversity introduces a man to himself. And, wherever you find yourself, at some point and time you made an appointment to be there.
• Whatever you want, you got to focus on it, focus your thoughts. All achievement comes out of the human mind, constructive or destructive. You got to have a goal, a target to aim for. As you do that, you’re growing in conscience, and that will increase your manifesting power. You must say to yourself, “Good things are supposed to happen to me”, “It’s possible!” People are used to expect bad things to happen to them. It’s not “too good to be true”, it’s happening to the right person, you. 
• You must be grateful. You surely can think of, at least, one thing you are grateful for. And when you become negative about situations in your life, about people that you allow to push your buttons, catch yourself. That’s how you remain positive. The more energy you give, the more action you take, the more life can express through you, you are an outlet for all that life has. And as you change your mindset and believe that you have something to give, the act of giving makes you more alive and able to sustain life. “My life is good as it is and I can make a difference”. It’s important to be of service; think of what service you’re supposed to provide. “Service is the rent we pay for the space we take up on earth.” 
• Get counseling. Ask for help and don’t stop until you get it. Surround yourself with the right, positive people. There are those people who are always around when they need you, but disappear when you need them, you can not find them. You don’t want to just go through the tough times, you want to grow during the tough times. You want to determine who is it that you can count on, and who you should count out. Someone who will be there for you. Even if it’s not the ones you know now, if you ask for help, if you ask enough people, somebody will step in and help you out during the tough time. And it’s very important not to try and do it solo, not to try and go through it by yourself, there’s safety in counsel. You have to begin to surround yourself with positive people, and you want to ask for help, and find things that can encourage you. You want to become a part of a group of people that are united to “fight”, they are facing the same thing that you are facing, they come together with you, and are there to encourage and inspire each other. They are there to share the best ideas, methods and techniques. Don’t try and do this by yourself. They say misery loves company, but so does success. Surround yourself with achievement-driven people that have goals of getting on the other side of that challenge, whatever it might be (foreclosure, eviction, losing your job, sickness, etc.)

Tough times never last, but tough people do.

Working on your mind is of the utmost importance, keeping your chin up, knowing and expecting that things will get better for you. Maybe life is trying to tell you something and you have not been listening.

And before you do anything, you need to be still and quiet. Listen to the small voice within to give you directions. Maybe we need to ask someone to give us some direction, someone we trust, who believes in us, who maybe knows us better than ourselves, because it’s hard to see the picture when you’re in the frame.

You will always be faced with challenges in life, and series of situations that, if you don’t have enough courage and insight to know that you have outgrown that situation, and it is time to move on, then life will move on you.

We often judge things from their external appearance. It is a natural human tendency.

First impressions are especially important; they have an outsized influence on our attitude and predispose us toward a particular opinion.

No wonder we pay so much attention to our appearance, and appearance in general; regardless, if one digs deeper, the situation may be much less ideal.

If you’ve ever experienced an inspection of a facility or equipment from some higher authority, then you have a good idea of what I’m referring to. What matters most is that it all looks good or as desired. The fact that, under the surface, there may be a lot of corrosion and faulty, non-functional, or unreliable equipment is secondary.

Similarly, in the days of mobile phones, connectedness, and social media, it is common for people to enact an online persona that doesn’t represent their true self and/or reality. They may be depressed, but their online persona will always seem confident and happy. They may struggle to get by each month financially, but their persona will seem well-to-do and successful.

We are visual creatures who place utmost significance on what we see with our eyes. And we often rush to conclusions without having the prudence to ask questions and look deeper. We commonly say, “I must see it, to believe it”.

Even many of our preconceived notions and beliefs are deceptive, as they are commonly based on appearances.

It is, then, easy to be deceived by appearances. And not only can it be self-sabotaging, but other people can also take advantage of this weakness. It can be a means to misguide you and control you. It’s not that hard either, not in our days at least.

Effects in Building An Online Business

In the context of building an online business and online entrepreneurship in general, deceiving appearances and erroneous, misleading preconceived ideas are abundant.

People regularly present themselves, or a product they are promoting, in a false light to make a profit.

A common misconception is that you can be making good earnings from one day to the next without too much hustle. It appears to be so, other people seem to achieve this, but the not-so-obvious part we fail to see is the long and hard work behind the success.

Another misconception is that it is so difficult to succeed in building an online business that it is only for the few. On the other side of the spectrum, we may think that it is so easy anyone can do it, just by following a step-by-step guide. The truth, as usual, is somewhere in the middle.

All this is very unfortunate as it can hold us back from our dream of building an online business or/and hinder our success.

That is why it is crucial for us to develop our analytical thinking and reasoning; to be able to judge people, objects, and situations based not on external appearances or prejudice but their inner qualities and true nature.

In this spirit, we make our New Year’s resolutions; how this year we will become fit, adopt a healthy lifestyle, lose the extra weight we haven’t managed to lose in our countless previous attempts, be more social, more confident, more assertive, make more money, get a better job, you name it.

And as good as it feels when we make these resolutions, how optimistic we are that we will make it happen this time, we all know what actually happens down the road, we give up!

As disappointing as this is, unfortunately, as much as we can’t see it at the time, it is also inevitable. But why? Why do we set ourselves up for this disappointment? And why can’t we simply remain dedicated and actually achieve out goals for the New Year?

The problem with New Year’s resolutions – and resolutions to ‘get in better shape’ in general, which are very amorphous – is that people try to adopt too many behavioral changes at once. It doesn’t work. I don’t care if you’re a world-class CEO – you’ll quit.

The reason is that our resolutions are usually unrealistic. They are more happy wishes and daydreams than actual, achievable goals.

It probably feels better when we say that this year we will become the fittest person who ever lived, than if we said that this year we will gradually become this little much fitter than we were, run this little more distance, lift this little more weight; planning at the same time for the work that needs to be done, the time and effort it will take. In the first case though, we are pretty much guaranteed to give up and end up disappointed, while, in the second case we are likely to succeed and boost our confidence, which will propel us further forward.

If we really want to see our New Year’s resolutions to the end, the key then is to set realistic goals. These goals must also be specific, and we must have a clear plan on how we’re going to achieve them. The bigger our goal the more it must be subdivided in smaller successive steps that will gradually, and in good time, lead to our end goal. We must have patience, consistency, and we must not compare ourselves to anyone else but our own self from yesterday.

Trying to change before you’re ready isn’t likely to be productive. For example, most New Year’s resolutions don’t last because people spring into action without being prepared for the work it’s going to take. Forcing change based on a date on the calendar, rather than a true readiness to transform, can be a setup for failure.

It’s only a while ago that I started reading Frank Herbert’s “Dune” (again). I was inspired by the, at the time, upcoming movie.

Having just watched this amazing movie, at the cinema, I am now inspired to write this post about one of the main concepts of the book, and the movie, which is “facing fear”.

“I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me,” writes Frank Herbert.

Let’s examine the truth of this quote.

According to various studies and reports, so many people seem to be unhappy with their jobs, and/or unsatisfied with their lives.

Instead of being present and fully living their lives, valuing their dreams, and actively pursuing what gives them meaning and purpose, they seem, instead, to be passively going through the motions that is their life, stuck in situations that offer little value and much dissatisfaction, adopting a pessimistic, cynical, self-limiting and defeating mindset on the way.

Why is that? What is it that’s holding them back, holding them frozen in place, unable to act, powerless and helpless? What is it if not “fear“?

So, I say to you, “You must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings obliteration. Face your fear.“

If you listen to your fears, you will die never knowing what a great person you might have been.

It makes sense, and it’s part of our maturation as human beings, that as we grow up we become more prudent and wise, and consider the consequences of our actions before we do anything.

But I find that we often defeat ourselves before we even get started towards accomplishing something by the fear of failure, by thinking of all the ways things could go wrong.

The only thing standing between you and your goal is the story you keep telling yourself as to why you can’t achieve it.

In this post, I’d like to address this matter, which affects many people, me included, especially as most people seem to hate their job.

It’s been a while I’ve known in my heart, and I have already made up my mind, that it’s time to quit my job and move on to trying different things. It’s not an easy decision though, particularly if you have been doing this work for many years.

However miserable you may be, fear can hold you back. “The devil I know is better than the one I don’t“, you likely think, but how sure are you of this? How true is it?

Reading this post, I can assume that you also have this feeling, an intuition, however strong, it’s time to move on from your current job.

But, like any important decision, we want some indication, some kind of rules that let us know this is the right decision. We are emotional beings, and, generally speaking, we don’t make good decisions when we are under emotional stress, and reacting to our emotions.

Thus, when making such a decision, it would be wise for us to be calm, and clear-minded. We would get great insight if we could distance ourselves from the situation and take a look at it from a neutral third person’s perspective.

This is why I did my research, I also utilized my experience working in various environments, with different types of people, and facing a variety of situations, and I created a list of seven basic conditions, or signs, that let you know whether it is time to move on from your current job, and take action towards something better. The presence of any of them may be enough for you to know it’s time to move on.

1. Boring work, lack of excitement, little opportunity for growth. You are not learning anything new, just routine work and no new experiences. We are naturally curious creatures, we seek to try new things, discover and learn. If you repeat the same tasks each day at work, if you repeatedly do the same things, day in and day out, then your work is boring, and boring work leads to depression, so get out now. Quit your boring job and try different things until you find something that gives you genuine joy (you may even have something specific in mind you would like to do); this is how you truly succeed.
2. Work environment. If it’s an environment that makes you feel uncomfortable, undervalued, disrespected, minimized, and/or unheard then you have the power to walk away and find an environment that aligns with your values, makes you feel appreciated, and helps you thrive. If you stay you may become complacent.
3. You see no future for yourself in this work; you have nothing to hope for, to look forward to accomplishing. This is a good sign that your current business does not align with your values and goals, with what motivates and inspires you. Do I have to say it? Just get out! 
4. Your gut feeling. Oftentimes your gut feeling knows best, and it may be all the indication you need, even if you can’t completely understand it or put it into words. Steve Jobs, in his famous Stanford commencement speech, said, “you can’t connect the dots looking forward, you can only connect them looking backwards“. Your gut feeling may somehow know, and telling you, your job does not align with your mission, vision, and purpose.
5. Micromanagement, lack of trust, and transparency. If you are micromanaged there is little room for creativity and growth. It is usually accompanied by a lack of trust. All this indicates a bad organizational culture, and it can’t lead to any good place; so, you’d better get out as fast as you can. 
6. Depressed, anxious, drained, and unhappy. If you regularly feel like this when you think about your job, or about going to your job, more so as the time approaches for you to go to your job, then you should seriously think about finding another job. Just get in terms with the fact this particular job is, most likely, not a good fit for you; there’s no shame in that. Think of it this way, knowing what does not work for you moves you one step closer to finding what does.
7. Unfulfilling, meaningless work. According to Jordan Peterson, “it’s a moral obligation to pursue what you find meaningful“.

If I’ve gotten any wisdom from my experiences, then this wisdom says you should not go after a salary; first and foremost, you should go after work that grows you, gives you meaning, and makes you happy. If it makes you happy, you’ll get good at it; and if you’re good at your work, and you’re happy doing it, the money will follow.

“A salary is the drug they give you to forget your dreams“. This quote is from an interview Kevin O’Leary has given. In the same interview he says, “never pursue entrepreneurship for the greed of money, the whole reason to be an entrepreneur is the pursuit of freedom. That’s why you do it.“

Why do we believe in it? It simply is cool, it looks and sounds nice; it even exudes an aroma of mystery. We believe in it because, naturally, we prefer to focus on the exciting part, the success, rather than the not-so-exciting part of what it took to get there.

Nothing happens overnight. Luck has nothing to do with it.

If we dig a little deeper, and have a look at the psychological aspect, we want to believe in the “overnight success” because we like shortcuts and we desire things to be easy, we want the good stuff, but we don’t want the struggle and the hustle.

As is often the case, it also has to do with our insecurities. If being successful is all about luck, then it’s not up to us, thus no one (first and foremost ourselves) can blame us if we are not successful, we have an excuse.

While it may feel good to let ourselves be fooled by this concept occasionally, and it may seem innocent, it’s actually very dangerous, and can be harmful. The reason is, it takes our attention, and energy, away from what it really takes to be successful.

Many of the people (that are going to watch this video) are not achieving what they want, and are lacking the patience, and think everything happens overnight, and that is coming at the cost of an unhappy life.

A very good analog to success is that of an iceberg. We can see the tip of the iceberg above the water, but we can’t see the much larger part (about 90%) of it, hidden from view underwater.

In a similar way, we notice a person who achieved success, as they intrinsically stand out and the mass media display and showcase them. It seems like it happened overnight, from one moment to the next, but it is an illusion, because we can’t see the large, 90% part of the “success iceberg”, which is “sweat, blood, and tears”.

Remember that whoever you are, and wherever you are in your life at the moment, you can succeed. You can do it, it’s not about luck. It won’t happen overnight though, you have to pay the price. And the price, to be a real “overnight success”, is that you have to put in the hours of work, of struggle and hustle, you have to be dedicated and consistent.

Hustle is putting it all on the line. Period, simple, you don’t like the way it sounds. F@ck it, cause it’s the truth, cause you’re just not working.

Stop crying and just keep hustling. Hustle is the most important word, ever!
